Taylor Swift Drops 31-Song Mega Double Album
LOS ANGELES — Buckle up because Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poets Department” meeting is now in session, and it’s a 31-song mega double album.
The Grammy-winning artist surprised fans by releasing her highly anticipated 11th studio album on Friday, with the album making an early appearance on Apple Music before its scheduled midnight release. At 2 a.m EDT, Swift dropped another bombshell by releasing a surprise 15-song album titled “TTPD: The Anthology.”
The initial 16-track “Tortured Poets Department” album may seem relaxed and mellow on the surface, but a closer look at the lyrics reveals a complex and chaotic stream of consciousness where Swift navigates through heartbreak, longing, anger, and self-reflection.
One standout track is “loml,” where Swift sings, “I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all.” The poignant lyrics reflect a mix of emotions, with Swift concluding, “You’re the loss of my life.”
To commemorate the album’s release, Swift shared on Instagram that it is “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time.” She expressed that our tears turn into sacred ink on the page, allowing us to be free of our saddest stories.
Collaborations with artists like Florence + the Machine on “Florida!!!” and Post Malone on “Fortnight” highlight the album’s diversity and creativity. The music video for “Fortnight” is set to premiere at 8 p.m. EDT on Friday.
Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, Swift’s long-time collaborators, contributed to several songs on the album, showcasing their musical chemistry. The “Anthology” album released later in the day includes bonus tracks and new songs for fans to enjoy.
“The Tortured Poets Department” arrives amidst Swift’s successful “Eras Tour” and recent Grammy wins, setting high expectations for sales and streaming numbers.
Tom Poleman, the chief programming officer & president for iHeartRadio, described the album as the most anticipated in his career, predicting it to be a pop culture event that everyone will celebrate.
Spotify reported that the album became the most pre-saved in its history, with fans eagerly awaiting its release. At a Spotify event in Los Angeles, one fan expressed excitement for Swift to share her truth through her music.
In February, Swift announced the album at the Grammys, revealing its significance in her life and the power of songwriting to help her navigate through challenges.
“Tortured Poets” is not just an album; it’s a testament to Swift’s growth as an artist and storyteller, captivating audiences worldwide with her emotional depth and musical talent.
