Increasing Voter Turnout Signals Growing Engagement
The latest Eurobarometer results reveal a significant increase in voter turnout compared to the previous election cycle. A total of 71% of respondents indicate they are likely to cast their vote, marking a 10-point increase from 2019.
Citizens from countries like Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Germany show the highest rates of likelihood to vote. Moreover, countries like the Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Poland, Cyprus, and Slovakia have seen a surge in voter intention compared to 2019.
High Stakes and Growing Interest in European Elections
With critical global events unfolding, 81% of citizens believe that the current international context makes voting even more important. The upcoming elections will determine the direction the European Parliament takes amidst challenges like the Ukraine-Russia conflict, tensions between Iran and Israel, and economic concerns related to China.
Positive Perception of the European Parliament
Despite recent scandals and controversies, the European Parliament has managed to maintain a positive image among citizens. The latest survey shows a 5-point increase in the positive perception of the Parliament, with countries like Portugal, Denmark, Ireland, and Luxembourg showing the highest rates of positivity.
Overall, 56% of citizens believe that the Parliament should play a more important role in shaping the future of Europe.
Key Issues Dominating the Political Campaign
The survey also highlights the key topics that citizens want to see prioritized during the ongoing political campaign. Issues like the fight against poverty, public health, economic support, defense and security, climate change, democracy, and agriculture are among the top concerns for voters.
These results align with a previous Euronews poll conducted by Ipsos, indicating a strong emphasis on addressing rising prices, reducing social inequalities, and supporting economic growth.

On a more philosophical note, the Eurobarometer reveals that citizens want the European Parliament to prioritize defending values such as peace and democracy.
