Gaza’s Infrastructure in Ruins After 700 Days of Israeli Bombardment
GAZA — Gaza’s Government Media Office revealed on Saturday that nearly 700 days of relentless Israeli bombardment have left Gaza’s infrastructure in ruins, with losses exceeding $68 billion.
The statement highlighted that the campaign has demolished around 90 percent of Gaza’s infrastructure, accompanied by what the office described as “systematic policies of genocide and forced displacement.”
Tragically, more than 73,700 individuals have been killed or are still missing, including over 20,000 children and 12,500 women. Additionally, 2,700 families have been wiped out from the civil registry.
The casualties include 1,670 medical personnel, 248 journalists, 139 civil defense members, and 173 municipal employees. Over 162,000 others have sustained injuries, many of which are life-altering such as amputations, paralysis, and loss of sight.
The damage extends to 38 hospitals, 833 mosques, and 163 educational institutions, with numerous other public facilities suffering widespread destruction.
Israel has been accused of enforcing mass displacement by blocking residents from returning to their homes in Gaza City and the north, in addition to using starvation as a weapon of war.
The media office also highlighted the blockade preventing hundreds of thousands of aid trucks from entering Gaza, pushing 2.4 million residents, including over 1 million children, to the brink of famine.
Blaming Israel and its supporters, particularly the United States, for the devastation, the office urged the international community and the United Nations to take immediate action to end the aggression, lift the blockade, facilitate the return of displaced families, and hold Israeli leaders accountable before international courts.
Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza has lasted 700 days, resulting in the death of more than 64,300 Palestinians. The military campaign has inflicted severe damage on the enclave, leading to a famine crisis.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave. — Agencies
