Shocking Drone Attack on Myanmar’s Military Capital!

Opposition in Myanmar Launches Massive Drone Attack on Military

In a daring move, the opposition in Myanmar has orchestrated a large-scale drone attack on the country’s embattled military in the capital Nay Pyi Taw.

The National Unity Government (NUG) revealed that 29 drones armed with explosives were deployed to target the airport, air force base, and military headquarters. The military claimed to have shot down seven drones, with one causing an explosion on the airport runway. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Representing the ousted civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi, the NUG has been engaged in a fierce battle against the junta regime since the coup in 2021. As resistance fighters continue to gain ground, the country has been engulfed in a three-year civil war that has resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 2.6 million people, as reported by the UN.

This bold attack on the capital signifies the growing strength of the opposition groups, who are effectively challenging the junta’s rule. According to NUG representatives, the operation was meticulously planned in collaboration with various defense groups.

Describing the synchronized drone operations, NUG’s deputy secretary Mg Mg Swe stated, “The coordinated attacks targeted both the military headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw and the Alar air base.”

The NUG, self-proclaimed as Myanmar’s government in exile, previously asserted control over more than 60% of the country’s territory. The junta suffered a significant blow last October when an alliance of ethnic insurgents seized numerous military outposts along the borders with India and China.

The ongoing clashes have forced the junta to implement mandatory conscription in February, signifying its weakening hold on power. The situation in Myanmar remains volatile as the opposition intensifies its resistance against the ruling regime. — Reported by BBC
