Russian forces launch brutal attack on southern Ukraine following devastating Kyiv bombing

Russia Launches Mass Attack on Southern Ukraine, Killing Civilian and Wounding Dozens

KYIV — Russia unleashed a devastating assault on southern Ukraine overnight, resulting in the death of at least one civilian and injuries to 28 others, including children, in the Zaporizhzhia region, as reported by local officials.

The attack occurred just two days after a rare and fatal strike in central Kyiv claimed the lives of 23 individuals and caused significant damage to European Union diplomatic offices.

Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov disclosed that a five-story residential building bore the brunt of the latest bombardment.

Reports from Ukraine’s Air Force indicated that Russia deployed 537 strike drones and decoys, in addition to 45 missiles.

However, Ukrainian defenses managed to intercept or neutralize 510 drones and decoys, along with 38 missiles.

Thursday’s strike in Kyiv marked one of the most massive and deadliest assaults since Moscow’s full-scale invasion commenced in 2022. Tragically, children were among the casualties, and rescue teams worked tirelessly to extract victims from the debris.

Despite the magnitude of the attack, the Kremlin maintained its commitment to peace talks following the incident.

The escalation coincided with the approval of a substantial arms deal for Ukraine by Washington.

In the aftermath of Thursday’s tragedy, the Trump administration authorized an $825 million weapons package, including extended-range missiles and associated equipment, to fortify Ukraine’s defenses.

This surge in violence underscores the precarious nature of U.S.-led efforts to end the long-standing conflict, as diplomatic endeavors have thus far struggled to halt the war or rein in Moscow’s military offensive. — Agencies
