Royal twist: King Charles sends heartwarming message of friendship

LONDON’S KING CHARLES RECORDS UPLIFTING MESSAGE FOR MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE

In a heartfelt gesture, King Charles of Britain has delivered a message for the Maundy Thursday service, commending those who offer friendship in times of need.

The message, to be played at Worcester Cathedral, comes as the King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, will not be present. Queen Camilla will distribute the traditional “Maundy money” on his behalf.

With 75 recipients receiving the symbolic gift matching the monarch’s age, the King’s message, recorded in March, will emphasize the importance of extending a helping hand during challenging times.

While not directly addressing his health or the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis, the King will highlight the significance of caring for others in his message.

The Maundy service, a centuries-old royal tradition, involves the distribution of gifts and was established during the reign of King John in the 13th Century.

Formerly including a foot-washing ceremony, in homage to Jesus washing the apostles’ feet, the modern-day service now focuses on presenting purses of coins to individuals who have contributed to the church and local community.

Recipients this year will receive coins bearing symbolic images, with the King praising them as “wonderful examples of kindness”.

Queen Camilla’s appearance at the event on the King’s behalf comes as he continues cancer treatment, with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children absent as Catherine recuperates.

Despite technical constraints preventing a video message, an audio recording of the King’s words will be played at the service.

As the monarchy faces criticism from anti-monarchy group Republic, the King’s message stands as a testament to the values of kindness and compassion. — BBC
