Saudi Arabia Leading the Way in Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health Standards
Saudi Arabia is taking significant steps to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) standards under the guidance of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
As part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative, the goal is to reduce workplace injuries, diseases, and fatalities across all sectors.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the National Council of Occupational Safety and Health, has launched various projects to strengthen the OSH framework.
One of these projects is the OSH Center for Studies, Research, and Innovation, which focuses on advancing technical research and developing innovative solutions to workplace hazards.
Another key initiative is the OSH Program, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of workers to effectively manage workplace hazards.
Furthermore, the “Occupational Health Services” project is working on legislation to protect workers from occupational diseases by improving health services nationwide.
In addition, the Ministry is implementing the “High-risk Professions Regulating” project to revise labor laws and identify risky job roles.
The “Regulating and Recording Reports in the Workplace” project seeks to simplify the reporting and investigation of workplace accidents and injuries to create safer work environments.
On a global scale, Saudi Arabia is actively engaging in international efforts to promote OSH through participation in global conferences and knowledge sharing, demonstrating its dedication to enhancing worker protection and aligning with international standards.
These initiatives will culminate in the Sixth Global Conference for Occupational Safety and Health, titled “Scanning The Horizon,” scheduled for May 5-7, 2024.
During the conference, experts and stakeholders will convene to discuss the latest advancements in OSH and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Through these initiatives, Saudi Arabia is not only striving to reduce workplace accidents but also solidify its role as a leader in promoting a safe and healthy work environment both regionally and globally. — SG
