LONDON STANDS WITH ISRAEL: British Fighter Jets Intercept Iranian Drones
LONDON — In a bold move, British fighter jets successfully shot down “a number of drones” launched at Israel from Iran, according to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Multiple countries, including the US, joined forces to counter Iran’s unprecedented attack – its first direct strike on Israeli territory.
While additional RAF jets were deployed over Iraq and Syria, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) clarified that the interception did not take place in Israel.
Sunak, who strongly condemned Iran’s “reckless attack”, is set to meet with G7 leaders to discuss the next steps in response to the aggression.

RAF jets intercepted attack drones in Syrian and Iraqi airspace as part of Operation Shader’s mission against the Islamic State group.
The MoD confirmed that the RAF would repel any airborne threats within the range of its operations in the region.
Iran launched a barrage of aerial drones and cruise missiles at Israel overnight, prompting a swift response from the Israeli military with assistance from allied nations.
President Biden confirmed US military support in shooting down “nearly all” of Iran’s drones and missiles, while Jordan also played a role in neutralizing Iranian threats.
Sunak emphasized Iran’s determination to disrupt and destabilize the region, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to Israel’s security and calling for calm amidst escalating tensions.
Iran’s retaliatory attacks stemmed from a previous strike on its consulate in Syria, which resulted in casualties among Revolutionary Guard Corps officers and heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer expressed support for measures to restore calm and prevent a wider conflict, condemning Iran’s aggressive actions.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood echoed concerns over the potential escalation of hostilities, urging caution and strategic responses to avoid further conflict.
