Knife-wielding man injures five in Marseille, shot dead by police

Marseille Stabbing Rampage Leaves Five Injured, Attacker Shot Dead by Police

In a shocking incident in the bustling city of Marseille, a man went on a stabbing rampage that left at least five people injured before meeting his end at the hands of the police.

Local prosecutor Nicolas Bessone revealed that the violent outburst occurred on Tuesday afternoon and was carried out by a Tunisian national with legal residency status.

Bessone disclosed that the assailant had been evicted from his hotel due to non-payment of rent. Unfazed by this setback, he returned armed with two knives and a baton, launching his attack by targeting an individual in the room he had previously occupied.

He then proceeded to assault the hotel manager and his son, stabbing the latter in the back before embarking on a rampage that extended to a nearby snack bar and the surrounding streets, where he attempted to harm unsuspecting passersby before being “neutralised” by law enforcement.

The motive behind the attacker’s violent spree remains unknown as the investigation is still in its preliminary phase, as per the prosecutor.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau is slated to make his way to Marseille later in the day to assess the situation firsthand. — Euronews
