Indian Doctors Successfully Remove “Parasitic Twins” from 20-Day-Old Baby
In a groundbreaking medical feat, Indian doctors have managed to extract “parasitic twins” from the abdomen of a 20-day-old infant in Mumbai.
Known as foetus in foetu, this rare condition has only been reported in fewer than 200 cases globally, with some cases originating in India.
During early pregnancy, a malformed foetus is absorbed by the host twin, leading to the development of the parasitic twin that relies on the host for nutrients and growth.

Initially conceived as triplets, two of the foetuses began to grow inside the baby’s abdomen, prompting the need for a complex surgical procedure.
