Disney to Open First Theme Park in the Middle East
ABU DHABI — In a groundbreaking move, The Walt Disney Company has unveiled plans to launch its seventh global theme park, marking its debut in the Middle East with a new resort in the United Arab Emirates.
The upcoming waterfront destination will be situated on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, a bustling tourist hotspot already renowned for attractions like the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld, and a prominent waterpark.
Teaming up with Abu Dhabi-based developer Miral, Disney will take charge of the creative vision and execution, leveraging its iconic intellectual properties and offering management services. Miral will handle the construction and day-to-day operations.
While Disney will not be investing capital into the venture, it stands to benefit from royalties linked to the resort’s earnings, along with service fees. This move underscores the company’s strategic expansion into lucrative international markets.
Abu Dhabi, the vibrant capital of the UAE, has been actively cultivating its cultural and tourism sectors in recent times, showcasing attractions like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a host of upcoming museums. This collaboration with Disney further cements the city’s status as a global hub for entertainment.
The announcement coincides with an impending visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to the Gulf region, where major business agreements are anticipated with countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. Disney’s bold project announcement aligns with its impressive second-quarter financial results, leading to a surge in stock value.
While an official opening date for the Abu Dhabi theme park is yet to be revealed, excitement is already building for this landmark development in the heart of the Middle East. — Agencies
