Emma Watson Banned from Driving for Speeding
In a surprising turn of events, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has been slapped with a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding.
Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the beloved film series, was clocked driving 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford on the evening of 31 July last year.
Adding to the drama, it was revealed in court that Watson already had nine points on her license before her latest offense.
The 35-year-old, now a student, faced a hefty fine of £1,044 at her hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, which she did not attend.
Representatives for Watson have remained tight-lipped about the incident.
Despite this setback, the actress has been keeping busy pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford since 2023.
Since her breakout role in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Watson has continued to captivate audiences with her performances in various films, including Beauty and the Beast and Little Women.
On a more whimsical note, she even ventured into the world of spirits by launching her own sustainable gin brand with her brother in 2023.
Meanwhile, a new TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books is in the works, featuring a fresh cast of actors taking on iconic roles.
But Watson wasn’t the only Harry Potter alum facing legal trouble. Zoe Wanamaker, known for her role as Madam Hooch in the wizarding series, was also fined and banned from driving for speeding on the same day.
It seems speeding spells trouble for even the most magical of stars.
District Judge Arvind Sharma handed down the ruling, tacking on three additional points to both actresses’ licenses and enforcing a six-month driving ban for each. — BBC
