Israel Launches Strikes on Lebanon, 15 Dead and Dozens Injured

BEIRUT — A deadly escalation unfolded in Lebanon on Wednesday as at least 15 people were killed and dozens were injured following “extensive strikes” by the Israeli military in the southern part of the country, according to the health ministry.

Hezbollah Responds with Rockets, Teetering on the Brink of War

Hezbollah retaliated earlier in the day by launching numerous rockets into Israel, including a longer-range projectile that triggered air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and central Israel, pushing both sides closer to the brink of all-out conflict.

Israel managed to intercept the projectile, averting casualties or damage from the attack.

Israel Strikes Hezbollah Sites in Overnight Operations

Overnight and into Wednesday, the Israeli military targeted several Hezbollah sites, including weapons storage facilities that resulted in secondary explosions.

Additionally, Israel identified and destroyed a building in Nafakhiyeh, southern Lebanon, which had launched a missile towards Tel Aviv.

Escalating Violence Leads to Mass Displacement in Lebanon

Amidst the escalating violence, Israel’s two-day bombing campaign has resulted in over 560 fatalities and displaced thousands in southern Lebanon, forcing families to seek refuge in Beirut and Sidon.

Many displaced individuals attempted to flee the country, causing congestion at the Syrian border, as fears of an intensifying conflict between Hezbollah and Israel loom large.

Residents Speak Out Against Israeli Attacks on Civilians

Issa Baydoud, a resident who fled a bombed village, criticized Israel for targeting civilians and causing immense hardship for families like his own.

He emphasized the need for international intervention to halt the violence and protect innocent lives.

The UN Security Council has called for an emergency meeting to address the crisis in Lebanon, highlighting the urgent need for diplomatic intervention to de-escalate tensions and prevent further loss of life.

Deadly Toll Continues to Mount in Lebanon

Lebanon’s health ministry reported a devastating toll of at least 564 fatalities from Israeli strikes since Monday, including numerous children and women, with over 1,800 individuals sustaining injuries.
