Deadly Lightning and Thunderstorms Strike Pakistan

In a tragic turn of events, lightning, thunderstorms, and heavy rains have claimed the lives of 30 individuals in Pakistan. The South Asian country is bracing for more rough weather, with predictions of further storms on the horizon, as reported by DPA.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), several others have been injured in rain-related incidents over the past 48 hours. The devastation has been widespread, with casualties reported in various regions.

Seventeen people lost their lives in the central province of Punjab due to lightning strikes, while eight individuals perished in the southwestern region of Balochistan as a result of heavy rains and thunderstorms. The rugged mountains of the northwest also saw five fatalities caused by falling roofs and crumbling walls after two days of relentless downpour.

Chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has warned that more rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the country in the coming days, adding to the existing challenges faced by the affected populations.

Punjab province bore the brunt of the severe weather, with several districts experiencing heavy rainfall and lightning strikes. Apart from the loss of lives, six individuals were injured in separate incidents. The torrential rains have also led to damage to houses, traffic jams on main roads, and highways.

Authorities have advised citizens and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in the affected districts for their safety. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with the NDMA, civil departments, and volunteers working together to assist those in need.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rains with thunderstorms until Monday, highlighting the risks of flash floods, landslides, and damage to crops. The situation remains critical, and efforts are being made to mitigate the impact of the ongoing natural disasters. – Agencies
