Chinese Foreign Minister Urges Global Leaders to Prevent Escalation in Russia-Ukraine Conflict

NEW YORK — In a bold address at the United Nations General Assembly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on world leaders to take decisive action to prevent the expansion of the battlefield in Russia’s war with Ukraine. Wang emphasized the importance of committing to no escalation and warned against exacerbating the situation for personal gain, taking a clear swipe at the United States.

Wang’s impassioned plea reflects China’s commitment to playing a constructive role in global affairs, particularly in promoting peace and stability. Despite Chinese President Xi Jinping’s absence from the UN General Assembly, Wang’s speech underscored China’s unwavering diplomatic stance on critical international issues.

Addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Wang condemned the ongoing turmoil as “the biggest wound in human conscience” and reiterated China’s support for a two-state solution. Calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state and full UN membership, Wang emphasized that a peaceful resolution is essential to ending the longstanding conflict, amidst rising tensions in the Middle East.

Wrapping up his speech, Wang reiterated China’s stance on human rights, asserting that countries should not interfere in each other’s internal affairs under the guise of human rights. He highlighted China’s unique approach to human rights that aligns with its national conditions. — Agencies
