Tragic Shooting Claims Lives of Four Officers in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A devastating shooting incident in Charlotte, North Carolina resulted in the deaths of four officers, including one deputy US marshal and two local task force officers, as they attempted to serve a warrant at a home.

Law enforcement officers were met with gunfire from a “high-powered rifle” as they tried to serve a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the 5000 block of Galway Drive. The officers returned fire, resulting in the death of the suspect and the tragic loss of three members of the marshals task force.

Among the fallen officers were Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott, both veterans of the state’s Department of Adult Correction. Poloche leaves behind a wife and two children, while Elliott leaves behind a wife and one child.

Four Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were also shot, with one in critical condition. Tragically, one of the wounded officers, Joshua Eyer, passed away from his injuries.

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles expressed deep sadness over the incident, urging all to keep the officers, their families, and the injured officers in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

President Joe Biden also paid tribute to the fallen officers, calling them heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.

The investigation is ongoing, with two “people of interest” being questioned by police. The community mourns the loss of these brave officers and stands in solidarity with their families.
