Trump Plans Executive Order Mandating Voter ID for All Elections
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Saturday his intention to issue an executive order that would require voter identification for all elections, leaving no room for exceptions. In addition, he called for tighter restrictions on mail-in ballots and electronic voting machines.
“Voter I.D. must be part of every single vote. NO EXCEPTIONS!” Trump proclaimed on his Truth Social platform. “I will be doing an executive order to that end!”
Trump went further to limit mail-in ballots to only “those that are very ill, and the far away military,” insisting that “paper ballots only” should be utilized.
Currently, voter ID laws differ significantly among states, with no national mandate in place. According to BallotPedia, 36 states have some form of identification requirement, including 25 that demand photo IDs with specific exceptions.
On the other hand, 14 states do not mandate identification for in-person voting.
Trump, a vocal critic of mail-in voting and electronic voting machines, revealed his plan for the executive order as redistricting efforts pick up speed in preparation for the 2026 midterm elections. — Agencies
