Israeli Prime Minister Agrees to Reschedule Meeting with US Officials for Rafah Operation
WASHINGTON — In a sudden turn of events, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has agreed to reschedule a crucial meeting with US and Israeli officials to discuss potential actions in Rafah, the White House confirmed on Wednesday. This decision comes just days after Netanyahu abruptly canceled the delegation.
The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, stated, “The Prime Minister’s Office has agreed to reschedule the meeting dedicated to Rafah. We are currently working with them to find a suitable date that works for both parties. This is a positive development for the planned discussions regarding Rafah.”
According to CNN reports, Netanyahu’s office has agreed to reschedule the meeting, with officials suggesting that it could take place as early as next week. However, an exact date has not been finalized yet.
During Wednesday’s briefing, the press secretary refrained from disclosing the potential rescheduled date but emphasized that it is of utmost urgency to do so.
Netanyahu canceled the delegation’s trip this week in response to the US abstaining from a UN Security Council vote urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
An official confirmed that the US engaged in “productive discussions with Israel’s defense minister in the past two days,” with Rafah being a key topic discussed with Jake Sullivan, Tony Blinken, Lloyd Austin, and Bill Burns. — CNN
