Boeing lands record-breaking order from Qatar during Trump’s visit

Boeing Strikes Massive Deal with Qatar for 210 Jets

In a groundbreaking move, Boeing has clinched a deal with Qatar for up to 210 jets, marking the aircraft maker’s “largest-ever” widebody order valued at a staggering $96 billion.

The order comes amidst swirling controversy surrounding US President Donald Trump’s proposed acceptance of a Boeing 747-8 for use as Air Force One. Gulf state’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, emphasized that it’s a “government-to-government transaction,” not a personal gift to Trump.

While Trump was in Doha, economic agreements totaling over $243 billion were announced between the United States and Qatar, including the historic sale of Boeing aircraft and GE Aerospace engines to Qatar Airways.

Trump’s presence in Doha underscored his role as the “dealmaker in chief,” with the White House touting his prowess as a salesman and diplomat on the global stage.

Boeing revealed that the order includes 130 of its renowned 787 Dreamliner jets and 30 of the larger 777-9s, with options for an additional 50 Dreamliners and 777X.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed deep gratitude for Qatar Airways’ record-breaking order, which solidifies their future fleet with Boeing’s widebody airplanes at the forefront.

Despite the positive market response, investors remain cautious as order commitments are not final, and airlines have been known to retract publicly announced orders.

The deal marks a significant boost for Boeing, America’s top exporter, following challenges including a strike and reduced deliveries in the previous year.

Trump’s trade policies have added pressure on Boeing, but the administration is strategically leveraging Boeing orders in trade negotiations, as seen in recent agreements with British and Qatari airlines.

Additional agreements in Qatar, including defense deals and cooperation, further solidify the US-Qatar relationship amidst the ongoing global tour of Trump’s delegation.

With Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates also on the itinerary, Trump’s overseas tour is making waves in the aviation and defense sectors. — CNN
