Saudi Patient Safety Center Joins Forces with BD to Enhance Healthcare Quality
In a groundbreaking move, the Saudi entity of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a top-tier global medical technology company, has forged a strategic partnership with the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) aimed at revolutionizing patient safety and healthcare quality throughout the Kingdom.
The partnership, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the sidelines of the Global Health Exhibition in Saudi Arabia, underscores a mutual dedication from both entities to bolster Saudi Vision 2030 by addressing critical healthcare issues such as reducing medication errors, managing sepsis, and combating Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). These initiatives are in line with BD Signature Programmes™, which concentrate on enhancing patient safety, healthcare worker safety, and driving efficiency.
Key focus areas will include medication safety to achieve zero harm from medication errors, prevention of HAIs such as Central Line-associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), and Surgical Site Infections (SSI). Furthermore, the collaboration will highlight antimicrobial stewardship and work towards improving sustainability and workflow efficiency across healthcare systems.
“This partnership represents a significant leap forward in our quest to enhance healthcare safety across the Kingdom,” remarked Dr. Ali Asery, Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center. “By merging our strategic vision with BD’s global expertise and cutting-edge technologies, we aim to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement in patient and healthcare worker safety. Together, we will establish new standards of excellence in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and equip healthcare professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to drive safer, more efficient care delivery for our nation.”
The collaboration will encompass a series of workshops, roundtable discussions, clinical training sessions, and the exchange of best practices in over 500 hospitals nationwide, along with the creation and sharing of clinical guidelines inspired by international recommendations. The partnership will also concentrate on enhancing data collection in full compliance with the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) and conducting surveys to glean insights from healthcare professionals across Saudi Arabia. Both organizations will collaborate on crafting a whitepaper titled ‘Medication Safety 2030,’ advocating for a national strategy to achieve zero harm from medication errors.
Omar Malabarey, Country General Manager BD Saudi Arabia, added, “Our collaboration with the Saudi Patient Safety Center signifies a momentous stride in our shared dedication to shaping the future of healthcare in Saudi Arabia. At BD, we are deeply committed to transforming patient safety through innovation, and this partnership enables us to bring world-class expertise and technologies to support the Kingdom’s healthcare objectives. Through our joint efforts, we aim to mitigate risks, enhance the quality of care, and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement, aligning with Vision 2030’s aspirations for a sustainable and resilient healthcare system.”
