Baftas: Conclave and The Brutalist Sweep Awards

LONDON BAFTA FILM AWARDS: CONCLAVE AND THE BRUTALIST STEAL THE SHOW

In a night filled with drama and excitement, the Bafta film awards saw Conclave and The Brutalist emerge as the biggest winners.

CONCLAVE SWEEPS AWARDS

Conclave, directed by Edward Berger, dominated the evening by clinching four awards, including Best Film and Best British Film. This remarkable feat marks the first time a movie has achieved this double win since the 2019 war drama, 1917. Additionally, Conclave secured accolades for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing.

THE BRUTALIST MAKES A STATEMENT

Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist also made a strong impression, securing four awards. Corbet himself received the Best Director award, while Adrien Brody’s portrayal of Hungarian architect László Tóth earned him the Best Actor title. The film also took home awards for Best Original Score and Cinematography.

OTHER WINNERS

Other notable winners included Mikey Madison for Best Actress in Anora, Kieran Culkin for Best Supporting Actor in A Real Pain, and Zoe Saldaña for Best Supporting Actress in Emilia Pérez.

ANORA’S SURPRISE VICTORY

Anora, a film depicting a romance between a New York stripper and the son of a Russian oligarch, was a surprise winner at the Baftas. Despite missing out on the Best Picture award, the film secured victories for Best Actress and Best Casting.

NEWCOMER SHINES

Madison’s unexpected win for Best Actress marked a significant moment in her career. The 25-year-old, known for her roles in popular series like Better Things and films like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, rose to prominence with her leading role in Anora.

THE SUBSTANCE CONTROVERSY

The Substance, starring Demi Moore, received mixed reviews and controversy due to the star’s past social media posts. While Moore’s performance garnered acclaim, the film only managed to secure one win for Makeup and Hair.

AN UNPREDICTABLE NIGHT

The Bafta awards proved to be unpredictable, with no single film dominating the evening. This trend mirrored the rest of the awards season, adding an air of excitement and uncertainty to the event.
