In a heartbreaking announcement, the family of John Alfred Tinniswood has confirmed that the world’s oldest living man has died at the age of 112 in Liverpool.
Tinniswood, a lifelong Liverpool football fan, took his last breath on Monday at the Southport care home where he resided, leaving behind a legacy of longevity and love.
A REMARKABLE LIFE
John Alfred Tinniswood, born in 1912, the same year the Titanic sank, became the world’s oldest living man in April 2024 after the passing of Juan Vicente Pérez Mora at the age of 114.
His family recounted that Tinniswood’s final moments were filled with music and surrounded by love, reflecting on his remarkable journey through life.
A LEGACY OF LOVE AND KINDNESS
Throughout his life, Tinniswood showcased many fine qualities, including intelligence, decisiveness, bravery, and a knack for mathematics, which served him well during his military service in World War Two.
After the war, he worked for Royal Mail and as an accountant for Shell and BP before retiring in 1972, leading an active retirement as a church elder and volunteer.
AN INSPIRATION TO ALL
His move to the Hollies Rest care home in Southport just before his 100th birthday was met with admiration from staff and residents, who found his kindness and enthusiasm for life truly inspirational.
Despite his age, Tinniswood remained humble about his longevity, attributing it to chance and stating, “You either live long or you live short – and you can’t do much about it.”
