Egyptian President Al-Sisi Pledges Full Support for Lebanon
In a show of solidarity, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi assured Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Cairo’s unwavering support for Lebanon. During a telephone conversation, al-Sisi directed the immediate dispatch of aid to the country, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s “complete support for Lebanon” and expressed strong solidarity with Beirut during its critical times. He emphasized Egypt’s firm stance against any threats to Lebanon’s security, stability, or sovereignty, calling for an “immediate, comprehensive, and permanent ceasefire” in both Lebanon and Gaza.
The Egyptian president wasted no time in instructing the urgent deployment of medical and relief aid to Lebanon “in solidarity with its people.” He also made it clear that Egypt would continue its support for Lebanon across all levels.
Al-Sisi issued a warning that the failure of the international community to intervene and halt aggressive actions against Palestine and Lebanon could lead to an escalation of the situation, posing a threat to regional and international stability and peace.
Prime Minister Mikati expressed gratitude for Egypt’s backing and praised the Lebanese government’s efforts to contain the situation. He also commended Egypt’s role in restoring regional security and stability.
The ongoing exchange of cross-border strikes between Hezbollah and Israel, triggered by Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip, has resulted in a death toll of nearly 41,600, with most casualties being women and children. The conflict escalated following a Hamas cross-border attack on Israel on October 7.
With concerns mounting within the international community, there is a fear that these strikes could potentially escalate the Gaza conflict into a wider regional war. — Agencies
