Rock Band Jane’s Addiction Cancels Tour After On-Stage Brawl
LOS ANGELES — The American rock band Jane’s Addiction has abruptly canceled the remaining dates of their tour following a dramatic on-stage brawl in Boston, Massachusetts.
On Friday night, tensions reached a boiling point as lead singer Perry Farrell threw a punch at guitarist David Navarro, forcing the band to cut short their performance.
In a statement released on social media on Monday, the band announced that they had “made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.”
Refunds will be provided at the point of purchase for the canceled tour dates, which included 12 shows across the US and were set to conclude in their hometown on October 16.
Video footage circulating on social media captured the intense moment when the 65-year-old Farrell confronted the 57-year-old Navarro on stage, leading to a physical altercation before security intervened and escorted Farrell off stage at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion.
According to Farrell’s wife, Etty, tensions had been building among band members with “night after night” clashes leading up to the explosive incident. She mentioned that Farrell was particularly frustrated with the band’s volume during performances.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Jane’s Addiction is a prominent figure in the early alternative rock scene, consisting of Farrell, Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery. The band recently reunited after more than a decade apart.
Known for hits like “Just Because,” “Been Caught Stealing,” and “True Nature,” Jane’s Addiction has released four albums together: “Nothing’s Shocking” (1988), “Ritual De Lo Habitual” (1990), “Strays” (2003), and “The Great Escape Artist” (2011).
In 2013, the band was honored with a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. — BBC
