SAUDI ARABIA SHINES AT WSIS+20 WITH ICT ADVANCEMENTS

GENEVA — The recent World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva witnessed Saudi Arabia’s remarkable achievements, as the country clinched several prestigious awards highlighting its progress in information and communication technologies (ICT).

The Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) stood out by winning the award in the “role of governments and all stakeholders in the promotion of ICTs for Development” category for its National Data Bank (NDB) and Estishraf project. These initiatives are designed to elevate the quality of data within the Kingdom, foster international collaboration, and contribute to a data-centric digital economy through specialized platforms.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia secured three excellence certificates at the summit. The “AI Principals Project” by SDAIA was acknowledged for its emphasis on ethical AI development and implementation throughout its lifecycle. The “Elevate” project, also by SDAIA, was lauded for its initiatives in empowering women and delivering training in data and AI to over 1,000 women from 28 countries since its inception.

Additionally, the “SmartTruck” project by the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in partnership with HUAWEI, which strives to bridge the digital gap for seniors through digital skills training programs, was also recognized for its impactful work.

These accolades underscore Saudi Arabia’s significant progress in enhancing its ICT infrastructure, nurturing national capabilities, and aligning with global advancements in key sectors like government services, healthcare, education, and entertainment. — SG
