Saudi Arabia Shines at WSIS+20 Summit in Geneva
GENEVA — Amidst the buzz of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Saudi Arabia emerged as a standout winner, bagging multiple prestigious awards that highlighted its progress in information and communication technologies (ICT).
The Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) clinched the award in the “role of governments and all stakeholders in the promotion of ICTs for Development” category for its groundbreaking National Data Bank (NDB) and Estishraf project. These initiatives are designed to elevate the quality of data within the Kingdom, foster international collaboration, and drive a data-centric digital economy through specialized platforms.
Adding to the accolades, Saudi Arabia also garnered three excellence certificates. The “AI Principals Project” by SDAIA was commended for its commitment to ethical AI development and integration throughout its lifecycle. The “Elevate” project, another brainchild of SDAIA, was lauded for its dedication to empowering women and offering training in data and AI to over 1,000 women from 28 countries since its inception.
Moreover, the “SmartTruck” initiative by the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in collaboration with HUAWEI, aimed at bridging the digital gap for seniors through digital skills training programs, received well-deserved recognition.
These awards underscore the remarkable progress made by the Kingdom in fortifying its ICT infrastructure, nurturing local capabilities, and aligning with global advancements in key sectors such as government services, healthcare, education, and entertainment. — SG
