China Supports Iran’s Right of Self-Defense
In a recent phone call between the foreign ministers of China and Iran, China expressed support for Iran’s assertion that actions against Israel were a form of self-defense. The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, did not condemn the weekend strikes but did criticize an attack on an Iranian embassy building in Damascus.
According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi condemned the attack on the consulate building, stating that it violated international law and was unacceptable.
Iran explained that their actions were limited and in response to the attack on their embassy building. They also expressed a willingness to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation of the situation.
Additionally, China’s Special Envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, met with Israel’s Ambassador to China to discuss Israel’s concerns about the conflict in Gaza. Zhai emphasized China’s deep concern about the escalating tensions in the region and stated that conflicts and bloodshed benefit no one.
