Australian Police Officer hailed as hero after stopping knife-wielding attacker in Sydney shopping center
In a heroic act of bravery, Australian police officer Insp Amy Scott confronted and shot dead a man who had fatally stabbed six people at a Sydney shopping center. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised her actions, stating that she undoubtedly saved lives during the horrific attack.

Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke of New South Wales Police provided details of the incident, noting that the attacker had engaged with multiple people in the shopping center, causing harm by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying. Insp Amy Scott, who was nearby conducting routine duties, swiftly responded to the situation and confronted the attacker on the fifth floor of the complex, ultimately eliminating the threat.
Witnesses at the scene recounted the intense moment when Insp Amy Scott confronted the knifeman, with one stating that if she hadn’t taken action, the attacker would have continued his rampage. The officer even administered CPR to the assailant after disarming him, demonstrating her quick thinking and dedication to saving lives.
Eight victims, including a nine-month-old baby, are currently hospitalized following the attack, with five of the six fatalities being women. The baby is undergoing surgery, and reports suggest that the mother may be among the deceased.
Despite the tragic events, Prime Minister Albanese commended the officer’s bravery and highlighted the selfless nature of those who wear the uniform, rushing towards danger to protect others.
While details about the assailant and his motives remain scarce, police have confirmed that the 40-year-old attacker was known to them. Bondi Junction, the location of the attack, is a popular shopping district in Australia typically bustling with visitors on weekends.
