Global Leaders Condemn Iran’s Drone Attacks on Israel
BRUSSELS — Responding to recent drone attacks by Iran on Israel, leaders worldwide have unleashed a fierce wave of condemnation.
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, didn’t hold back in expressing the EU’s disapproval of Iran’s actions.
“This is an unprecedented escalation and a serious threat to regional security,” Borrell wrote on his official account.
US President Joe Biden, cutting short a weekend trip to monitor Middle East events from the White House, reaffirmed his unwavering support for Israel.
He disclosed that he had called a meeting with his national security team to assess the latest developments.
In a social media post, Biden stated, “I just met with my national security team for an update on Iran’s attacks against Israel. Our commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad.”
UN Secretary General António Guterres urged for an immediate halt to the hostilities.
“Neither the region nor the world can afford another war,” he cautioned in his statement.
“I am deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East,” the statement read.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wasted no time in condemning Iran’s “reckless attack” against Israel.
French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne echoed similar sentiments, denouncing Iran’s actions as destabilizing and risking military escalation.
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani assured readiness to handle any scenario, staying in close contact with ambassadors in Tehran and Tel Aviv.
The acting Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, emphasized the need to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, conveying a clear message to Iran to cease attacks on Israel.
Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also joined the chorus of condemnation, expressing solidarity with Israel and denouncing Iran’s actions as unacceptable.
“We support Israel’s right to defend itself and its people from these attacks,” they both affirmed.
