Finland and Ukraine ink groundbreaking security deal

Finland and Ukraine Ink Long-Term Security Agreement Worth 188 Million Euros

In a historic move, Finland and Ukraine have signed a 10-year security agreement in Kyiv, with Helsinki pledging a defense aid package worth 188 million euros to support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the agreement as a “robust document” demonstrating Finland’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s security.

The agreement also includes long-term military and financial assistance from Helsinki, as both countries aim to strengthen their cooperation in politics, finance, and humanitarian efforts. Finland has agreed to assist in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector and evaluate the environmental impact of the Russian invasion. Additionally, medical treatment for Ukrainian military personnel is part of the deal.

This latest defense aid package brings Finland’s total military support to Ukraine to approximately 2 billion euros. In a bold move to bolster Ukraine’s military forces, Zelensky announced a reduction in the military conscription age from 27 to 25, following more than two years of conflict. The new mobilization law, which was passed by Ukraine’s parliament last year, went into effect immediately after Zelensky signed it.

While the reason for the delay in enacting the law remains unclear, the signing marks a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities and safeguard its sovereignty.
