JAKARTA EXPLOSION PROMPTS EVACUATION OF 130 FAMILIES

JAKARTA — A massive explosion at a military ammunition warehouse near the Indonesian capital Jakarta has led to the evacuation of over 130 families, according to officials on Sunday.

LOCATION AND IMPACT

The blast took place at the warehouse owned by the Jayakarta Regional Military Command in Ciangsana Village, Bogor regency, West Java province, just 7 km from Jakarta’s eastern border. The explosion was so powerful that it could be heard within a 7 km radius.

EVACUATION AND RESPONSE

West Java Acting Governor Bey Machmudin stated that evacuees are currently being accommodated in two temporary shelters. The fire brigades were able to extinguish the explosions by 3:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, as confirmed by Jayakarta Regional Military Command Chief Mohamad Hasan. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident.

CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION

Hasan revealed that the fire started in a warehouse within the military complex that was used for storing expired ammunition. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.

CONTAINMENT AND CLEANUP

Firefighters managed to control the blaze that leveled the ammunition warehouse outside Jakarta after a series of explosions. The military deployed 27 fire trucks to the scene and advised residents to avoid touching any potentially hazardous materials that may have landed in the surrounding areas.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION

Authorities suspect that the explosion was triggered by unstable expired ammunition stored in the warehouse without electricity. The military is conducting a thorough search of the area to remove any dangerous materials that were thrown out during the blast.

Firefighters utilized robotic cars to assist in extinguishing the flames and ensuring the safety of the surrounding areas. The military commander emphasized that the warehouse was being used to dispose of the ammunition.
