Trump’s Legal Battles Heat Up Before Easter Weekend
NEW YORK — Donald Trump’s legal team is not backing down as they face two major legal challenges before Easter weekend.
In Georgia, they are appealing a judge’s decision to allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue pursuing an election subversion case against Trump. Meanwhile, in New York, they are fighting against a gag order that limits Trump’s speech in a hush money case.
With four legal cases looming over him, Trump maintains his innocence and claims he is being politically targeted.
The Georgia case accuses Trump and his co-defendants of attempting to overturn the 2020 election. They have raised concerns about Willis’ alleged financial ties to a prosecutor involved in the case, Nathan Wade. Despite admitting to a relationship, Willis denies any financial benefits from it.
Although the judge overseeing the case sided with Willis, Trump and his co-defendants are pushing for her removal, which could significantly delay or dismiss the case altogether.
In a separate case in New York, Trump is facing allegations of falsifying business records related to a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. A gag order has been imposed on Trump to prevent him from making statements about jurors, witnesses, or court staff.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is seeking to clarify and potentially expand the gag order after Trump insulted the judge’s daughter on social media. Bragg is urging the judge to warn Trump and impose sanctions if he continues to violate the order.
Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, maintains that his client has not violated the gag order and argues that the judge’s daughter is not covered by it.
As Trump’s legal battles intensify, the stage is set for a showdown in court before the upcoming US elections. — BBC
