Saudi Arabia Showcases Leadership in Science and Technology at S20 Meeting in Rio de Janeiro

The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) represented Saudi Arabia at the inaugural meeting of the Science20 (S20) group in Rio de Janeiro, under Brazil’s G20 presidency.
This meeting brought together science academies from G20 nations and international scientific organizations to delve into crucial topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), bioeconomy, energy transition, health, and social justice, highlighting the transformative power of science on a global scale.
The Saudi delegation showcased the Kingdom’s advancements and leadership in the data and AI sector, emphasizing the implementation of a comprehensive legal framework that aligns with international standards. This framework aims to foster the responsible development and utilization of AI technologies to enhance human capabilities.
With a focus on bioeconomy, the delegation highlighted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to economic diversification and sustainability, supported by significant investments and guided by the National Biotechnology Strategy. This strategy aims to improve public health, preserve the environment, ensure food and water security, while also promoting economic growth and localizing promising bio-industries.
The Saudi Genome Program was highlighted as a key initiative to address health challenges within the Kingdom. Leveraging big data, this program aims to drive advancements in precision medicine, boost digital health solutions, and reduce the prevalence of hereditary and genetic diseases.
In line with a strategic shift towards a diversified energy mix, the Saudi delegation emphasized substantial investments in renewable and sustainable energy sources to secure a balanced and forward-thinking energy landscape.
Furthermore, the delegation reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to social justice, equality, and the promotion of inclusive societies where all individuals have equal rights and opportunities.
