TIANJIN, China: Modi and Putin Share a Laugh at SCO Summit
In a display of camaraderie, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin. The two leaders shared a hearty handshake, with Modi’s trademark laughter filling the air.
Chinese President Xi Jinping joined the conversation, maintaining a composed demeanor as the trio engaged in a brief discussion before posing for a group photo.
The summit, held in northern China, brings together a coalition of Eurasian powers that have grown in both numbers and global influence. Originally established as a counterbalance to U.S. dominance in Central Asia, the SCO has evolved into a significant player on the international stage.
In his opening address, President Xi emphasized the importance of rejecting outdated ideologies such as “Cold War thinking, rival blocs, and bullying.” He called on member states to strengthen the United Nations-centered international system and work towards a more multipolar world order.
As geopolitical tensions escalate, Xi urged the forum to advocate for “a more just and balanced global governance system” to address the intensifying rivalries among nations. — Agencies
