Trump Works to Organize Trilateral Summit with Ukraine and Russia
WASHINGTON — In a high-stakes meeting in Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that “territorial issues” will be a key topic of discussion at a proposed trilateral summit involving the United States and Russia, an initiative spearheaded by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelenskyy, standing alongside Trump and EU leaders, emphasized the importance of addressing sensitive points such as security guarantees and humanitarian concerns during the summit. “What is very important is that all the sensitive things — territorial, etc. — we will discuss on the level of leaders during the trilateral meeting,” Zelenskyy stated.
Trump has committed to organizing the summit, with Zelenskyy expressing gratitude for U.S. support in both security and humanitarian efforts. “President Trump will try to organize such a meeting, and he said that whether he will come or not come, Ukraine will be happy if you participate,” Zelenskyy addressed EU leaders present.
Following Trump’s recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, discussions have escalated to potentially end the conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. While Trump has shown willingness to consider territorial concessions for peace, Zelenskyy remains firm in demanding guarantees for Ukraine’s sovereignty, defense, and humanitarian needs.
The trilateral summit is expected to include direct participation from Putin, although the Russian president has yet to confirm his involvement. — Agencies
